Forum Series 2
Performative Dimension
In recent years, integrating performance into exhibitions, events and various occasions has become a major trend. Yet “performance” takes very different forms in the theatre, the gallery, and in site-specific contexts. Beyond conventional theatre-based performing arts, how do artists and curators from different backgrounds—across performance and visual art lineages, identities and media—position, approach and construct “performance” in different spaces and contexts?
The “Something Else” Forum Series I, first held in 2024 and initiated by Art and Culture Outreach (ACO) in collaboration with No Discipline Limited, focused on “Muses for Theatre-making”. It brought together diverse creative perspectives to share approaches to non text‑driven theatre-making, and received an enthusiastic response, with many hoping the conversation could continue.
Now, Series II finally arrives, organised by No Discipline Limited under the thematic frame of “Performative Dimension”. We invite Wen Yau (cross-media artist, researcher, curator and writer) and Vee Leong (Text based and intermedia artist), together with curator/producer Orlean Lai, to lead three sessions of sharing and dialogue respectively. On a separate day, artists from the “Platform Undefined” project will share their experiences and reflections participating in the programme.
The first day will feature three two‑hour sessions: roughly one hour of presentation from each speaker, followed by an hour of dialogue/discussion. The second day will focus on the sharing by 10 participating artists from “Platform Undefined”, and engaging in conversation among themselves and also with the public.

Session 1
The (Im)possible Performances in the Theatre?
The theatre is more than a physical space; it is a site laden with traditions and definitions. How do these boundaries shape our work as definitions, constraints, or possibilities? Faced with these structures, some artists break free from the frame, others nomadically cultivate untamed interdisciplinary spaces, and some embrace the ambiguity to spark fresh friction. Drawing from the journeys of three displaced artists, this panel explores how the artists navigate the nuances between “theatricality” and “performativity.” How do they carve out an artistic existence here, and what unique landscapes can be uncovered along the way?

Wong Winsome Dumalagan’s practice revolves around videography, images, and installations, often rooted in the cultural contexts she traverses. She delves into understanding places, roots, and mobility, exploring how everyday narratives of people, nature, and objects construct knowledge, through both planned and serendipitous encounters. With videos and images she captured or collected from those she encountered, she sculpts and layers visuals, and often incorporates discarded household items, inexpensive and sometimes flawed materials, to create temporary spaces that are continuously reconfigurable, probing the boundaries of representation in both imagery and material.
